Taiwanese Mahjong Overview

Taiwanese Mahjong differs from most other types of mahjong rules in that a hand is played with 16 tiles rather than 13. A complete hand in Taiwanese mahjong consists of five sets and a pair, using 16 tiles and going out with 17.Since there are more tiles in a hand, a winning hand can contain a lot of scoring patterns. On the other hand, some other patterns  such as all honors become more difficult. A few hands that do not make sense in a 16 tile hand have been omitted. Such hands include Nine Gates and Thirteen Unique Wonders.
